MAKING A SARONG (BATIK)



The process of Batik is quite simple and yet unique. Below are the procedures and techniques used to make a batik sarong. Nevertheless, creating batik required one to have a patient heart and creativity.


TOOLS/MATERIALS USED IN MAKING BATIK
Canting

Melted Wax is filled into the 'Nyamplung' and the wax will flow through the 'Cucuk' and then onto the fabric.

There are various type of wax used in the making of batik. Some of them are Beeswax, Sticky microcrystalline wax and many more.



MAKING SARONG (BATIK)






1. First a design is applied to the fabric using melted wax. 
2. The fabric is then dipped in vegetable dye - the parts of fabric that are protected by the wax do not absorb the dye. 
3. When the wax is removed from the fabric using hot water it shows a light pattern on the now colored fabric
